According to many scientists (not to mention consumers), the billions of bugs living your gut can be cultivated in such a way as to prevent everything from nausea to cancer. It's not a new theory: Yogurt earned its reputation as a health food in the '70s because of its 'live' bacterial cultures. But this notion gained new popularity after two scientists in Boston managed to isolate a superbug that they claimed could prevent intestinal ailments. Their FrankenGerm was subsequently freeze-dried and mass-marketed.
