If French had conquered the New World, I suppose the continent would be covered with cities like Montreal -- and maybe that wouldn't be such a bad thing. Its Old World cliches are diluted, thankfully, by a modern design sensibility. On a recent trip, Gary and I came across an eye-popping "mosaiculture" exhibition in front of an abandoned grain silo along the Lachine Canal. It was topiary on crack. Pictures of the trip are here.
